The best content for your business

I love filmmaking. I would do it for free, and I did for almost 15 years. To this day, I still volunteer and work on interesting projects. My favorite is to show up without a plan and wing it. When everyone is excited, the subject matter is interesting, and the team shares a common goal, the end project almost writes itself.

Any creative will tell ya that working with marketing agencies can be challenging. They are trying to scale their business and often use a template model. I don’t do that. The content I create is specific to the client. And it doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time. It also takes a collaborative effort. If your team is negative or possesses a too-cool-for-school attitude, your content will suck. I recently worked with a client who didn’t want their team in the video because he didn’t think they would be entertaining.

What you think about your brand, team, and content isn’t what other people think. Scott Cook said it best: A brand is no longer what we tell the consumer it is – it is what consumers tell each other it is.

I would much rather work with a motivated, friendly, and hardworking team than with a bad attitude. Authenticity is king. The best content comes from picking up the camera and having a good time. A great leader allows the creatives to do what they do. Phrases like, “I’m not sure about that one,” “I feel,” or, my favorite, “Is this on brand enough?” These are red flags for me.

Not knowing what people will react to shouldn’t keep you from creating content for your business. The unknown is exciting. Those with doubts about content usually doubt the service their company offers. A solid product you’re proud of, a clear message, and a happy team are the ingredients for successful content for your business. When all those things are in place, start rolling those cameras!
