Top Reasons Clients aren’t paying you on time.

If you work for yourself long enough, it’ll happen. It happens to me every 3-5 years. And it’s always the same scenario, but I tell myself that this time will be different. It starts with the words, “We’re looking for someone to grow with us.” Subtext: We don’t respect you.

I have a love-hate relationship with Los Angeles. I Love The Beach, Downtown LA is my jam, and I don’t care about the traffic. but I hate some of the people. a client messaged me this morning and said, “I’m waiting on payment from a customer. When they pay me, I can pay you.” I’ve been working with this client for almost a year. For the last 4 months, the client was late on payment every week.

Every business owner that hires you will know they have to pay you. Excuses like, “Sorry. I forgot” are lies. No human being running a business forgets to pay their contractors. Every week, the client would pay a day late, pushing payments and falling 2 weeks behind. When I approached her about it, she said she didn’t understand why she owes me for 2 more weeks. Every business owner that questions payment is lying to you. If you want to excel in your craft, you need to drop the dead weight.

Until a year ago, I used to have all my clients paying the same small monthly membership fee. they had access to my studio. Now, I drive to each of them and can only handle a few at a time, unlike the hundreds I used to work with every week. When Clients Are Late Paying Their Invoices, It Affects My Other Clients. I Have To Be More Strict These Days. I Have A Zero-tolerance policy for non-payment.

You being paid should have nothing to do with your Clients' customers paying them on time. Those are doomsday clients. Any day could be the end.

Your business is just as important as your client’s business. I've Been In Situations Where I felt guilty about asking for my pay. If you start feeling this way, quit immediately and quit right now. Your client is toxic. Talking shit about past contractors is also a big red flag. Paying late, and talking shit go hand-in-hand.

I've learned the importance of putting myself in a position to walk away if needed. Imagine needing to ask your client to pay an invoice, knowing They Received It but they pretend they didn’t. This being after a long 2 weeks of hustling for them. It’s wild, but People Are roaming the streets with that mindset.

I focus on being great at what I do, so Clients Who Do Not Pay On Time Will Regret It When I Create Content For Their Competitors. Look At It From Their Perspective. If A Customer Doesn’t Work Out For Your Client, Do They Go Find Another One? Exactly. The client is your customer. You need more than one to survive.

I spent time researching the industry and developing ideas that I Knew would help that company. It’s only fair that I take my efforts to a company that won’t ghost me on payment. I’m always calm, cool, and collected. Hard work gets noticed. Trust me. Your client’s competitors notice if you’re always professional.
