I can easily recognize when a client is being unreasonable. It can be challenging to accept quality jobs when you need to pay your bills. If you own a business, you're essentially selling something - it might be a product or a service, but either way, you are in the business of selling.

Do your friends or colleagues often ask for discounts? These days, I simply say no. A discount from a small business feels significantly different than a discount from a big retailer like Target. I've mostly stopped working with people I know.

I take my role very seriously. I'm extremely dedicated when it comes to promoting your brand. Your customer might not always agree with the value you provide. It's subjective, and my suggestion is to be realistic.

Do you have the resume and experience to support your prices? I maintain a small client list to offer a more personal relationship. As a one-man operation, I can keep my prices lower than medium-sized digital agencies and provide more attention to clients than most local digital agencies.

I owned a production studio in Los Angeles, California from 2008 through 2019. My philosophy was simple: get as many people talking about my service as possible. I struggled for 2 years to get people to listen as I went against the established way of doing things in Hollywood. I aimed to empower actors and shut out gatekeepers.

I held a launch party and saw a significant increase in sales from under $3,000.00 a month to $12,000.00 a month, which further rose to $20,000.00 a month within a year. I became the most popular production service for actors in Los Angeles and was the first studio to offer video production as a monthly membership.

I was a terrible business owner back then, thinking I knew more than I did. The hardship in building that business is why I have a business today. Discovering Casey Neistat and Gary Vaynerchuk changed my perspective on being a media company. I believed my prices reflect my worth and I can back up my words with actions that provide value.

It's crucial to be upfront about costs from the start to avoid compromising the work. Holding out for the perfect customer is crucial to ensuring great content. If I sign a bad client, it affects my other clients.

Here's some advice if you're starting as a videographer and building a resume: stay away from Tier 2 or low-budget agencies. You're better off working on your own or taking on free jobs to set the tone for your future work. Be selective about who you work with.

I’m a Texas Hill Country Videographer. Working out of Austin, San Antonio and sometimes Houston. I travel full-time, and work in California a few times a year. I have residence in Ventura, California and Spring Branch Texas. And I got my RV in Houston! Let’s go!

What should you pay a videographer to film your business?

I always outperform the value of the bill. That’s my goal. Whatever the client is paying, I make sure to provide twice the value. I’ve gotten myself into situations, where I settled for less, and everyone suffers.
