How Do I Come Up With Ideas for Acting Content?

Honestly, the difficulty is that there are too many ideas. And because of all the beautiful filming locations in San Antonio, I feel like the ideas are endless.

I’m constantly thinking in terms of production. Last month, I was getting my oil changed when the salesperson launched into a long-winded conversation about why I desperately needed new windshield wipers. I didn’t go there for wipers. I went for an oil change. But suddenly, this guy had made it his personal mission to upsell me. There’s a scene there.

Last year, I went to Whataburger and ordered a bottle of water so I could use the restroom.

“Just a bottle of water, please.”

“Would you like to try one of our What-a-Deal meals today?”

“No, thank you. Just the water.”

“How about the Big Ranch Wrap?”

“I’m not hungry. I’m just trying to buy a bottle of water so you’ll give me the key to the restroom”

“If you’re not that hungry, we have a Cobb salad.”

There’s a scene there too.

Life is basically a Seinfeld episode when you start thinking in terms of production. That’s also where some of the best content comes from. I can’t help it. I look at everyday moments and imagine how they would play through a lens. I’m not saying you need to become a psychopath like me, but start paying attention to the characters you’d like to play. Take a real-life situation and heighten it. Exaggerate the conflict. Give it a stronger beginning or create an ending that didn’t happen in real life. When you’re creating your own content, there are no rules. And creatively, the ideas that feel the most outside the box are often the ones worth pursuing.
