5 ways to get the team involved when creating content

Are these the top ways to keep your team motivated? Maybe. It’s worked for me. I’ve worked with Top Tier comedians, that didn’t want to be on camera, and 70 year old construction workers, who loved the camera. Your job as a video director is just as important as being a Cinematographer.

In addition to making dope content for you and your business, I’m there to help build your media empire. Below are some ideas that have helped me in the past. I hope they help you too.

Make it personal‍ ‍

Think about someone specific on your team. Can you come up with a content strategy that will not only help promote your business on social media, but will also excite your team? Let’s say you own a building supply company, and your human resource manager loves to cook. Cooking is his or her passion.

Suggest they start a cooking show. The cooking show will be produced and sponsored by your company.

There are creative ways to incorporate your brand, into the cooking show. Your human resource manager might sponsor the holiday party, or provide lunch for the team one day. The ideas are endless when you put the team first. Monthly creative meetings are a great way to hash out ideas.

Keep it specific

Don’t make it too difficult. Keep it short and sweet in the beginning. Your social media should be a reflection of who you are in real life. If a customer discovers you on Instagram, you should be the same person when they visit your shop.

Offer incentives

You could offer compensation, but sometimes that promotes the wrong message. You want the team to take pride in promoting your business. Let’s say you have a team of 5. Have a commercial contest. Ask each team member to write a 30 second commercial about your business. Everyone would vote on a winner. You would then film that commercial with your team. Host an awards ceremony. Film it all. It makes for a great team-building exercise, and you can document the entire process for social media. Film everything!

Make it about them

This is sort of the same as making it personal, but sometimes content that was supposed to be about the staff, comes off as forced. People are trained to spot bullshit. If you’re really making content about the team, viewers will notice. If you’re not, they’ll notice even faster.

Don’t be crippled by making it perfect

Drop your ego. What you think looks bad, most will love. In real life, you can’t start the conversation over. If you mess up, keep it rolling! Love the camera, and it’ll love you back.
