Are San Antonio Acting classes Helping You?

Are Your Acting Classes Actually Helping You? Man, if you’re an actor, I’m willing to bet you’ve taken more acting classes than you want to think about. Imagine if we got the same number of auditions as the number of classes we’ve taken.

One question I’ve always asked myself is: Am I actually getting something out of this?

I think almost every acting class has some value. Sometimes you don’t even realize what you learned until years later, after you’ve taken multiple classes and started figuring out what actually works for you. I used to take a class that was basically all Method acting. From the second you walked into the building, you were supposed to be in character.

On the first day, they broke us into scene partners and asked us to think about our favorite animal. From that point on, every time you walked into the classroom, you were that animal. My scene partner chose a giraffe, which I thought was hilarious because she was about four feet tall. I chose a dog because… I had a dog. Whatever.

Looking back, I spent around $200 a month on that class for more than a year. Did it prepare me to play a dog in a movie? Probably not. Is my scene partner ever going to be cast as a giraffe? Also unlikely. But the class still gave me something valuable.

It forced me out of my comfort zone. It taught me how to relax, stop worrying about looking stupid, and just exist in a scene. That’s the question I think actors should ask about any acting class or acting training in San Antonio: What am I actually getting from this? Are you becoming more comfortable on camera? Are you getting better at auditioning? Are you learning how to make stronger choices? Are you watching your performances back and seeing where you need to improve? For me, that last part is huge.

The traditional path of doing extra work, eventually finding an agent, slowly getting auditions, landing a few under-five roles, and hoping those eventually turn into bigger opportunities isn’t the only path anymore. Actors have more control over their careers than ever.

You can write something. Film it. Perform it. Put yourself on camera. Build demo reel footage, create your own scenes, practice self-tape auditions, and actually see how your performance translates to the screen. That’s a big part of what I believe San Antonio acting classes and on-camera acting training should be doing.

You shouldn’t just be talking about acting. You should be acting. Get on camera. Watch yourself back. Figure out what works. Fix what doesn’t. Then do it again. We have events daily at the actor house in San Antonio.

Train. Get on camera. Watch it back. Get better. Do it again. Thanks for reading. Interested in hearing about how you can get on camera daily, AND get demo reel footage? Click here.
