The Best Way to Be Yourself on Camera

The best way to feel natural during an audition is to spend more time in front of a camera. Like anything else, comfort comes from repetition.

Record yourself performing scenes, practicing auditions, or even talking casually. Watch the footage—not to criticize every little detail, but to understand how you naturally communicate. Your expressions, timing, voice, and small mannerisms are often what make you interesting on camera.

The goal isn’t to create a polished “audition version” of yourself. It’s to become comfortable enough that your real personality can come through, even when the pressure is on.

The more on-camera work you do, the less intimidating auditions become. Eventually, the camera stops feeling like something you need to impress—and simply becomes another person in the room. Ready to hear more?
